Pink Jeep Broken Arrow Tour

The Broken Arrow is the Pink Jeep tour, full stop. Two hours of guided red-rock four-wheeling across terrain a regular car would never survive, ending with the white-knuckle Devil's Staircase drop that produces every kid-screaming-with-laughter video you have ever seen tagged Sedona. It runs year-round from Uptown, books out weeks ahead in spring and fall, and is genuinely worth the price.

What you actually do

You meet at the Pink Jeep depot in Uptown Sedona (204 N SR-89A), sign a waiver, and pile into a bright pink open-top Wrangler with a guide and up to nine other passengers. The vehicle drives south on the Broken Arrow trail — a Forest Service road named after the 1950 film shot in the area — into a stretch of slickrock terrain that no regular SUV could navigate. The guide narrates the geology, the history (the Apache used this route, the film crew built the original road, the trail has been hand-cleared by Pink Jeep crews for decades), and gives you fifteen minutes at Submarine Rock to climb out and look around. Then comes the famous Devil\'s Staircase: a steep, multi-step slickrock descent that drops the Wrangler down a series of natural ledges. Everyone screams; everyone laughs; the guide is unfazed.

Who it\'s right for

Families with kids over four years old and at least three feet tall (Pink Jeep\'s firm minimum). Adventurous adults of any age. Travellers who can sit upright in a bouncing vehicle for two hours without back pain — if you have a serious back condition, take the Scenic Rim tour instead. Pregnancy is a contraindication.

What to bring

Sunglasses (essential — the Wrangler is open-top), a hat that will stay on (a chinstrap helps), sunscreen on any exposed skin, a light layer for morning departures in shoulder seasons, water (Pink Jeep provides bottled water but bring extra in summer), and a strap or case for your phone if you plan to film the Devil\'s Staircase. No bags larger than a small backpack.

When to book

March through May and September through November are peak — book at least four weeks ahead, sometimes six for weekend morning departures. Summer mornings sell out a week ahead; afternoons can have walk-up availability. December and January are the quietest months. The first morning tour (usually 8:00 AM) is the best light and the smallest crowds at Submarine Rock. Tip your guide $20 minimum, $30 if they made the trip.

Pink Jeep departs from Uptown but most of our guests prefer staying in West Sedona or the Village of Oak Creek — quieter at night, easier parking, ten minutes from the Uptown depot. Browse our Sedona vacation rentals to find a property with a hot tub for the post-tour wind-down.
