Verde Valley Wineries
The Verde Valley is Arizona's wine country, and it starts just 25–40 minutes from Sedona. Three clusters do the work: the creekside cellars of Page Springs and Cornville, and the walkable tasting rooms of Old Town Cottonwood. The valley's elevation and volcanic soils suit Rhône and Mediterranean grapes especially well.
What it is
The Verde Valley AVA grows on limestone and volcanic soils at 3,000–4,000 feet, producing well-regarded Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, and crisp whites. Pioneer wineries like Page Springs Cellars, Oak Creek Vineyards, and Alcantara Vineyards sit along Oak Creek and the Verde River; Old Town Cottonwood packs a dozen tasting rooms into a few walkable blocks of Main Street.
How to plan it
Pick a base. Page Springs / Cornville (25–30 min from Sedona) is the scenic, drive-between-vineyards experience with creek views and patios. Old Town Cottonwood (40 min) lets you park once and walk between rooms — the safer choice if everyone wants to taste. Several outfitters run wine-tour shuttles from Sedona if you'd rather not drive at all.
Good to know
Most tasting rooms open late morning to early evening; weekends are busiest. Always arrange a designated driver or a shuttle. Many cellars are dog-friendly on the patio and several serve small plates — call ahead for reservations on weekends. Spring and fall afternoons on the creekside patios are the sweet spot.
